What is the Difference Between a Nanny & a Household Manager?

A Nanny is a person who enhances the overall family environment by taking care of the needs of the children in the home.

  •  A nanny works with the family and takes full responsibility for the safety, well-being, and development of the children in the home.

  • Nannie's work responsibilities are child-related duties - things like keeping rooms and toys used by the children tidy and preparing children's meals.

  • A Nanny may also be responsible for driving children to school/sports/lessons, setting up and attending play dates, and child-related engagements.

A Household Manager is a person who supports the home/family and takes care of the children.

  • A household manager typically manages the home and takes care of the children at the same time.

  • Duties may include, but are not limited to: Laundry, meal planning, meal prep, and cooking meals and snacks for the whole family.

  • Light gardening (picking vegetables and watering plants), errands, grocery shopping, pet care, dog walking, signing children up for activities and making doctor appointments, creating a monthly schedule for children, birthday party planning and shopping, wrapping presents, addressing and stamping invites and greeting cards, researching different programs and schools, car maintenance, scheduling contractors, and organizing home.

  • There are more duties that a household manager can take on that are not listed.
